The Family Connection
The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI), through funding from the Annie E. Casey Foundation compiles and disseminates information on the status of children in the USVI in The KIDS COUNT USVI Data Book. Data collected over the years brought the need to focus on improving the quality of early care and education to the forefront. In response, CFVI established in 2005 an early childhood initiative, entitled The Family Connection (TFC).
The mission of TFC is to strengthen the community child care and early education infrastructure in the USVI by building awareness of the importance of early learning and development for success and working with community agencies to promote quality care and education.
TFC provides training programs, networking, and resources to child care providers, early education professionals, and parents of young children with the aim to improve outcomes for children so that they enter school ready to learn and succeed.
TFC is the leader in early child care professional development, providing early childhood social and emotional workshops as well as early literacy workshops in the USVI territory. TFC conducts regular consistent outreach services to child care programs. The goals of Outreach are to enrich the curriculum of participating programs, to model high quality practices, and assist center staff in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate engaging activities with their children.
The TFC Center has become an important space for the early childhood community to gather and share ideas on raising the standard for high-quality care in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The TFC center continues to provide books, educational materials, and toys to children, their parents, child care providers and teachers. We have added materials especially designed for infants and toddlers and children with special needs.
TFC Center is open: Saturdays 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Tuesday - Friday by appointment
